Shop and Tell- Smith's Mega Coupon Event

Tuesday, June 29, 2010 | | 0 comments
Yesterday I ran into Smith's to get those extra deals that went well the the coupons from 6/26 newspaper. My total came to $138.67 and I ended up only paying $38.23. My husband is going to kill me if I come home with anymore "stuff". We are in the middle of moving and I keep adding boxes to the pile with all my grocery deals.

You can see the matchups for Smith's this week here, here and here!

My Shop and Tell

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 | | 3 comments

I hit the Smiths Mega Sale this morning bright and early just like Tori did. However, we seem to have had very different shopping experiences! The store I went to only had a couple of coupon shoppers out. There was no racing to grab items, or finding empty shelves. As I was doing my shopping there were even employees unloading boxes of sale items to make sure the shelves were very heavily stocked. I was super picky about what I bought today. Before shopping I really went through the pantry deciding what items I wanted to stock up on. I left lots of things that were great prices behind due because I did not have online
coupons with me. ( my printer is broken! :( ... )
So, I may have to make another little run when I have that situation solved.
Below is a picture of what came home with me.
7 bottles of mustard, 3 dawn dish soaps, 2 softsoaps, 4 can mandarin oranges, 2 bottles of ketchup, 5 rolls of Bounty Paper Towels, 4 pkgs Carefree Pads, 3 pkgs Huggies Wipes.
A carton of Egglands Best Eggs, and a bag of Red Seedless grapes also came home but are not pictured. My total for this shopping trip came to 66.38 BEFORE coupons and sale prices.
After COUPONS and sale prices
I SPENT $25.84
Thats a 61% savings! Sweet!
Where are you planning to shop this week? Lets see a picture of your groceries! :)

I just got back from Smith's and I felt like I was stealing! I can't believe how awesome a trip I just had!I bought: 16 boxes of Oatmeal
4 Boxes of Life Cereal
Total Cost: $5.60 with tax!

First Transaction
10 boxes of Oatmeal
Last year when I bought Oatmeal during this sale there were some coupon printed on the inside of the box. They didn't expire until 12/10 so I held on to them hoping they would come in handy and the did for sure today!
Second Transaction
6 boxes of Oatmeal
4 Boxes of Life cereal
I used 4 $1/1 printable coupons (you can see them here on PYP) and then I used the $3/5 AFS coupon that was in the Fresh Market ad!
Each item only ended up costing me .28!!!
Before coupons my bill was $44.00 each transaction! My mouth about dropped when my bill came to only a couple dollars! And somehow I ended up with a coupon for a FREE movie ticket too!
How did you do?

Right now at Smith's a variety of Post cereal is on sale and wyb4 boxes you get $4 off instantly.

Total $2.00

Total Price for 28 boxes of Post cereals

$20.00 plus tax

That's an average of only .71 for a box of cereal

I don't like doing multiple transactions, but for this sale it seemed to be in my best interest. As always I encourage you to be courtesy of the people behind you in line. Consider letting some one behind you check out in between transactions or take your first 3 transactions to the car and come back in for your next 3 transactions. Remember the rule of friendly couponing!
One more note_-I don't consider .71 a great stock up deal on cereal, but the kinds of cereal that I ended up purchasing are at the TOP of my kids, and husbands list. I try to keep it under .50 for cereal, but this cereal really is a favorite at our home.

A Lot for Less

This weeks A Lot for Less comes from Charlyn. Charlyn and I meet a few months back at a class.

"This is not a usual "a lot for less" but I was able to get this great deal from posts I saw on She Shops Smart.
I needed to get a new infant carseat. I am pregnant with my third but my infant carseat was expiring just a few months after this baby will be born. I did a lot of research and picked a carseat that I wanted. It had great crash ratings and reviews but it was expensive!

I learned about becoming a friend of Babies R US on Facebook from your blog to receive a $5 gift certificate and I also learned about the Trade-in Event at Babies R Us from your blog. Here is the deal I got.

  • I traded in my used Graco Snugride and got a 25% off coupon.
  • I purchased a brand new Chicco Keyfit Carseat.
  • The original price would have been 192.32 with tax.
  • I received my 25% off discount which made the carseat $147.32 with tax
  • I used two $5 gift certificates (my hubby signed up too) from the Facebook promo which made it $137.32.
  • I also used two $25 gift certificates I bought off of Ebay for only $40 which brought it down to $87.32.
  • I had $10.90 from my ebates rebate which brought it down to $76.42.
  • I also earned a $5 rewards certificate to Babies R Us or Toys R Us with this purchase.
  • My total out of pocket (including buying those gift certificates and the rewards certificate I will get) was $111.42.
  • That means I saved $80.90 off or 42% off a carseat I had to buy.
I would have bought this carseat at full price if I had not known of these great deals!

Thanks for the great advice and awesome deals! My $80 saved will buy a lot of other necessities for a new baby.
Charlyn"

Thank you for sharing this with us Charlyn. You are a She Shops Smart pro! That is exactly what we want you to do so that you can save money all around town. Keep it up Charlyn. By the way- Congratulatons on the new baby!

So many times I see people "try"their hand a couponing and if they haven't seen AWESOME results in 2 weeks they give up. A Lot for Less from Jessica

This week our e-mail has been flooded with your awesome A Lot for Less photos! Many of you shared with us that this was your very first shopping trip! You guys are doing awesome! Keep it up!
Here is an e-mail from Jessica.
Hi Tori & Emily,
I have only been receiving the newspapers since late December and had only used a couple of coupons until last night. Due to the added deals with the Mega Event at Smith's I decided to jump in with both feet. I researched, prepared and went shopping. Prepping took a little longer then I wanted but I think that will shorten as I start to have some stock at home and get in the hang of filing coupons, especially those print ables.
Last night my total came to $163.74 then I had $66.46 off in Fresh Values savings and another $31.85 off from my coupons. That's a total of $98.31 in savings...I only spent $65.43!! That's a good start if you ask me. Here's to hoping that the prep time will be less and less as time goes by.
Thanks!!

Great Job Jessica! Yes, your prep time will get better with time. It looks like the time you put into it paid off too!

Yesterday when I went shopping at Smith's I was in a HUGE hurry and didn't have a lot of time to walk around and check out some of the unadvertised deals. My two little ones and I packed up this morning and took a stroll around the aisles to see what deals we could find. If I take my kids with me and I am using coupons I usually head over to the deli and grab them corn dogs and french fries to snack on. That keeps them entertained and I can go quickly. I was surprised how well I did today even with my kids with me! I am loving this sale and I am stocking up on tons of stuff that will last me at least 6 months!4 bags of Armour Meatballs@ $2.49
2 Bags Tyson Chicken Tenders @4.49
2 Bags Tyson Chicken Dinosaur Nuggets @$4.49
4 Tubs of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter @$1.49
4 bottles of Sobe Life Water @.99
2 packages Mission Tortillas @$2.50
2 Packages Goldfish @$1.38
2 Danimals Yogurts @ $1.88 (not apart of the mega sale)
1 Gallon of Milk (not apart of the mega sale)
Used:

4 .50/1 Butter coupons RP 11/15
2 $1/1 Mission Tortilla Coupons SS 1/10
2 $1/1 Danimals Coupons SS 1/10
Minus (2) $5 off for purchasing 20 participating items
Total $30.70
Saved $43.44
I purchased 30 items so on average each item only cost me $1.33!

My plan today when I went shopping was to divide up my transactions like this, but after my first transaction the checker told me she could print off duplicate receipts for me instead of doing everything in individual transactions.
Now that I am home I wish I would have divided up the transactions anyway just so things were easy to sort through, so I would recommend the different transactions if you are going to use any of the rebates I did. After I paid for my first transaction and my bill came to $22 and I was going to get a $20 rebate back I was feeling pretty awesome! Then all the rest of my items came up to over $380!!!!!! I about died. Then I scanned in my Preferred Savings Card and the total went down to $219!!!! I handed over my coupons and they did their magic! My total cost for that transaction was only $92! My total for EVERYTHING ABOVE only cost me...........
$115.11

My total cost after my rebate will only be
$77.11 and a FREE pizza coupon
To make this work for me it definitely took some work and planning on my part, but it totally paid off! I teased my husband and told him saving this kind of money at the store is like paying myself to work! I can't believe how much money I saved and how many groceries I came home with! Be sure to send us your pictures from this weeks sale too! We love seeing how awesome you guys do!
BTW I had so much fun running into so many of you readers today! Thank you for always be so sweet to me! Amy totally offered to give me her blue Solo plates so I didn't have to take the red ones and Krisiti ran back to grab me the bread I almost forgot! You guys are the best and you are why I love updating this blog!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Before I learned about grocery smarts I would DREAD going grocery shopping. I hated hearing the total at the checkout. After learning about the system, I found a whole new attitude and opinion on the topic of grocery shopping. Now its like a game that I am excited to play each week to see how much money I can save. Hearing the total is now my favorite part. I still take pictures on weeks I feel proud of myself for the savings! Tori and I love sharing with you what we have saved, but what we really love is hearing from our readers! We want to see your pictures! Don't pretend there has not been a week where you felt really proud of yourself, and the total savings your had! We know youve have had one! We also know you probably took a picture of it! :) So, dont be shy! Tell us about those weeks, and send us a picture of what your scored! We would love for you to show and tell, so we can feature it on the blog, and show others how you were able to purchase "a lot for less" using grocery smarts! Send us a picture, along with your total spent vs saved to Tori and I at our email- sheshopssmart@gmail.com

We cant wait to see your pictures and savings totals!

I also had to buy a couple of things that were not all on sale but we had to have like:
milk, bread, and some fruit and veggies. That night my total including those things (which are not in the above picture) came to 68.09 and savings of 98.45. I get so excited every week that I shop when I see that I was able to save so much money on the things that I was buying for my family! I love it!

Thank you for inspiring us and keeping us motivated with your encouraging photos, e-mails and phone calls of how well you do using what we show you! We are so grateful to each and every one of you readers! We love each week when we get to share with you are A Lot for Less photos! This weeks photo is from She Shops Smart reader Lauran.

" Hello there! I wanted to share with you my "A Lot For Less" I didn't buy as much as some of the pictures you feature but I think my example is wonderful because I didn't end up spending a single penny! That's right, I ended up being paid $6.97 for this purchase! I bought:

1 Charmin Toilet Paper
Big Pack1 Sucrets Throat Lozenges 24 count
2 Dayquil, 20 count
1 Hersheys Chocolate Chips
1 Maybelline Eye Shadow Quad
1 Maybelling Eye Shadow Trio

I used:$25 Rite Aid gift card for transferring a prescription, $5/$25 coupon, 2 $1/1 any Dayquil, In addition I received $4.99 from Single Check Rebates, and $5 from their Fall Savings Reward.
If these items were full price I would have spent $52.33 Instead, after my rebates, I ended up being paid $6.97 for this purchase! Nothing out of pocket! Amazing!
Thank you for the great coupon tips! We love you at my house!
Thanks! Lauran"

Way to go Lauran! That is incredible. FREE really is the best thing isn't it! Thank you for sharing your A Lot for Less with us!
