Old Navy Weekly

Friday, October 16, 2009 | | 5 comments
Yesterday was Thursday and I knew those weekly coupons were going to reset so I checked numerous times. I only left the house for a couple hours in the evening and by time I got home they had reset. I guess that is the excitement of the hunt? Did anyone else have any luck last night?
Have no idea what on earth I am talking about?
Check out our post about Old Navy Weekly.
Be sure to check back numerous times through the week to see if they randomly issue out more coupons. Here are the hiding places in case you find they put out more coupons:

  • $75 off $100 - Click on the pigeon that flies in the middle screen w/the 2 models
  • $50 off $100 - On the far right - take the orange scarf in the stack & put on top of the green sweater
  • $10 off $50 - Click on Heather's boot first (model wearing grey sweater & purple scarf) and then click Michelle's boot (on left side) -she's wearing a black/white shirt w/black boots
  • 25% off - Move the silver bracelets (in the purse that the model wearing red shirt is holding) and put on the left arm of Michelle (wearing black/white shirt)
  • 15% off when you buy the item of the week - Move the white checked shirt (far right in the middle of the stack) to the girl wearing the blue sweater
  • 10% off - Move red scarf in purse to girl in red shirt holding the purse

Thanks to Thrifty Northwest Mom for sharing the hiding places with us!

The Results are In....

Thursday, October 15, 2009 | | 2 comments
Thanks for everyone who voted in last weeks She Shops Smart poll.
We asked you:

What Grocery Store is your Favorite?

And 319 of you weighed in.
Here are the results:

33% (107)of voters said that Smith's is their favorite

29% (90)of voters said that Macey's and ASF stores are their favorite

18% (60) of voters said that Albertson's is their favorite

12% (40) voters said that Walmart is their favorite

4% (15) of voters said that "other" is their favorite

We found this poll very interesting and informational. The majority of our readers are shopping at Smith's and Associated Food Stores. We wouldn't have guessed that, but maybe with Albertson's switching over it has changed people's preferences.

Last week Utah Deal Diva compared various grocery stores to see who had the lowest overall prices. She found that Smith's was where she spent the least amount of money on everyday items. Be sure to check out her results here.
That is good news for you readers because our poll showed that Smith's is where the majority of
you already prefer to shop! Keep it up because it appears to be your favorite and where you save the most money!

Thank you everyone for voting. Now Emily and I can pay better attention to unadvertised deals at your favorite stores, maybe we could even do a sample meal plan from both Associated foods and Smith's each week.

Be sure to vote in this weeks poll found up in the upper right hand corner of the page.

What is your Favorite Day of the week to Shop?

A Lot for Less

Yesterday I forgot to post my A Lot of Less post! On Saturday I got up early and went to hit a couple of last weeks sales. I hadn't shopped in about 2 weeks so we were in need of some milk, eggs and bread desperately. I also stocked up on a few sale items and other items I needed for some upcoming family get togethers and play dates.
I did end up going to 3 different stores, but I actually enjoyed getting out of the house with out my little ones for a couple hours. I planned on only going to one, but there were no lines anywhere and I was going super fast. I hit all 3 stores in 1 1/2 hours! I ended up with all the stuff below:

Transaction One at Albertsons:
14 boxes of Ronzoni Pasta
2 boxes of Trans Rice
4 boxes of Captain Crunch Cereal
6 boxes of Quaker Chewy Bars
1 5lb bag of sugar
2 gallons of Welchs Juice
2 boxes of Barbers Stuffed Chickens
2 Steam fresh Frozen entrees
2 Canisters of Wet Ones Wipes
3 Hawaii's Frozen Juices
2 dozen brownies in the bakery markdown section for $2.99

I Spent: $29.14
I Saved: $100.07

Transaction Two at Maceys:
3 bags of Tortilla chips
2 Hunts Ketchup
4 Boxes of Popcorn
2 Sweet and Sour Sauces
3 cans of Nalley's Chili
1 Panda Express Orange Chicken Sauce
12 cans of Progresso soup
4 boxes Little Debbie Cupcakes
1 package Sara Less hamburger buns
1 package Pillsbury bake and serve pumpkin cookies
2 dozen eggs
10 yogurts
2 cool whip toppings
1 package tortillas
2 packages string cheese
1 package of Pork Chops
2 lbs bananas
1 head of broccoli
1 package baby carrots
1 head of lettuce
4 yellow onions
1lb Resier macaroni salad
1 package rolls

I Spent $42.36
I Saved$37.54

I could have price matched my Macey's trip at Walmart, but I really like Macey's produce and meat so I just ran into Walmart for just a couple other items.
Transaction Three Walmart
4 packages Toilet paper
4 tubs of Huggies flush able wipes
1 package Jello Pudding Cups
4 gallons of milk
1 summer sausage
1 loaf of bread
3 packages Sara lee lunch meat
3 cans Rotel tomatoes
1 box of corn dogs
4 season all salts

Spent $21.10
Saved: $21.13

My Weekly Totals Came to:
Spent: $92.60
Saved $159.37

This wasn't the greatest week, but there were a few things that we needed to have. I still stayed within my budget of $100 (I hadn't shopped in two weeks). I can't complain, but I am glad not every week requires multiple stores and not a ton of savings. I am glad to know my pantry and storage room are stocked up for many weeks to come. How have you been doing?

$5 off "The Proposal"

I have to admit we didn't have a chance to see the movie "The Proposal", but I would have liked to. Here is a $5 off the DVD or $10 off the Blu Ray combo pack printable coupon. The coupon I printed off expires 10/18/09. This will have to be a purchase you make fairly soon.
Thanks to She Shops Smart reader Jessica for this find!

Jolly Time Popcorn

My family's favorite snack is......popcorn. Normally I would say that was a good snack for us, but not the kind we LOVE. Our favorite popcorn of all time is Jolly Time Blast O Butter popcorn. The taste is incredible. We eat a bag probably every other night.

Right now there is a coupon for Save $1 on your favorite Jolly Time Popcorn and $1/2 Jolly Time Healthy Popcorn here.

Recently on the back of the boxes I bought there have been coupons for FREE bowling on the back. Check out this link here to find a participating bowling alley near you.
I was able to find one right down the street from us!
Popcorn and bowling! Sound's like a fun family night to me. Be sure to check out the backs of your boxes next time you buy Jolly Time popcorn (That sounds funny).

Here is another bonus they are offering right now. Mail in 3 UPCS and they will offer you a FREE re-usable grocery shopping bag.
Click here for the address and details. My popcorn more than pays for itself at this point!
*Another Tip- If you have a product you know your family loves and you buy whether it is on sale or not, check their website to see if they are offering any coupons. It also never hurts to call them and see if they mail out coupons. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised! Let us know if you find anything.

Recipes Using Sale Items

This week at Smiths Pork Loin, Tomatoes, and Cheese are all on sale. Here is a recipe to use those ingredients and make a yummy dinner!

Creamy Chicken & Chile Enchiladas
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cut into cubes
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 small can chopped green chiles
1 small can diced jalapenos
2 (10 ounce) cans green chile enchilada sauce
12 flour tortillas (6-inch)
3/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Cook chicken in skillet over medium heat, along with onions and garlic. Once cooked, add cream cheese, peppers and chiles; reduce to medium heat and stir until melted.

Spoon chicken filling into tortillas, roll and place seam down in the baking dish. Pour enchilada sauce over the top and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

Bake 15-20 minutes until hot and cheese is bubbly.

Top with fresh tomatoes, olives, avocado and sour cream, if desired.

Thanks to Nicolesrecipecollection.blogspot.com for this yummy recipe idea.

Current Rebate Offers

Do you have to use rebates to get 50-70% off your grocery bills? Absolutely not. Rebates are just another way of maximizing those coupons and taking your savings to 80-90%. I myself don't participate in rebates a ton, but if you are willing to do rebates there are many free things and even money makers to be had. Here are a couple tips I have found that have helped me keep my rebate savings organized.
  • Follow the rebate instructions exactly!
  • If you are going to buy it later, but there is a rebate for it now- BUY IT. I am still kicking myself for not going to Staples last week and getting my FREE backpack after the rebate. I could have used a backpack for my 72-hr kits, to keep emergency things in my car, or even to give away as a gift!
  • Rebates are before coupons! So, if there is a rebate at the grocery store and you have coupons for the items participating in the rebate- PARTICIPATE. The Fuel for School rebate is a great example of making money on a rebate!
  • Request a duplicate receipt. Almost every rebate I have ever sent in requires that I submit the original sales receipt. I hate sending my receipt away, just to never see it again, so at the register I request a duplicate receipt. I send the original away and keep the duplicate for my records.
  • As soon as you get the receipt for the rebate, mail it out! If I don't mail my rebate out with in a couple days of buying the item I end up forgetting about the rebate and when I do remember I find myself searching for the receipt in my purses, cars and file folders. As soon as you get home, sit down, fill out the rebate and mail it off. Yesterday I sat down and mailed out the rebates that I have participated in recently. It is the best feeling to get those babies in the mail. Last week I also shared another way to keep things organized here.

Right now there seem to be dozen of rebates floating out there. Here are a list of the current ones I have seen available:
