We highly reccommend that if you are going to take the coupon plunge you become a subscriber to the paper. This week each paper delivered had 3 sample boxes of GM cereal in them. I ended up with 12 boxes between my 4 papers! Yummy!

Last Day to Take Advantage of Smith's Coupon Event

Just a reminder that today, Tuesday May 18th, is the last day to use your coupons during Smith's Mega Coupon event!

Smiths is rounding coupons that are under $1 to equal $1 off. So .20, .35., .50 and all manufactures coupons under a $1.00 will come off as $1 off at the register! If a coupons say .25/1 Smith's will round it up to $1/1. That is like quadrupling a coupon! No coupon over $1 will be doubled.

I was able to purchase the above for $58.40. I saved $155.66.

I already put away my cold stuff, so I did also buy some milk, lettuce, Sunny D, Jello cups and eggs.

While I was checking out I was chatting with some of the Smith's employees and I asked them if they thought we might see events like this more often and they said they might. They told me it is a possibility that every Sunday-Tuesday we might be able to double coupons like this. Wouldn't that be amazing. Let's keep out fingers crossed. I also asked about their online coupon policy being under review and they said it is. Most likely they will no longer be allowing online coupons anymore. They said that there has just been too many fraudulent online coupons. I don't use online coupons anymore, but I know a lot of people would be disappointed. At one point Macey's had to make the same policy, but as of Aug. last year they started accepting them once again. Let's hope for the best.

Recipe Wanted- salsa ingredients on sale!

I need your help! With all the salsa ingredients that are on sale this week -due to cinco-de-mayo quickly approaching- I am really wanting to mix some up. The only problem is I don't have a recipe. Every time I make it, the recipe seems to be "some of this and some of that". It always turns out well (or so I assume from the empty bowl my family leaves on the table), but I would still like something more concrete to go off of. So, if you have a killer recipe, send it my way! I would love to hear from you! "Muchas Gracias", in advance! :)

Recipes Using Sale Item- Pork Roast

This week at Fresh Market they have Pork Roasts on sale. I love using my crockpot so that dinner is ready and waiting for me when I get home. Here is a recipe that both Tori and I love. It is super easy and SOO good, and with roast being on sale I think I may be making it this weekend! 

Ingredients:

Roast (3 pounds-ish)

2 cans of Coca-Cola

1 Lipton Dry Onion Soup Mix

carrots and celery-as much as desired

Directions:

Pour soup mix over roast

Pour coke in on top of that

Add veggies

Let cook on low for 8 hours

 (sometimes I let it go even longer so the meat is totally falling apart)

Enjoy!

Kindness Matters

As I get the house back in order today after a busy weekend playing, I seem to have done a little bit more spring cleaning that I planned on. I was cleaning up the cupboards and found quite a few things that I will not be able to use before the expiration date, as well as some things that I picked up FREE with coupons. What will I be doing with them? Well, Harmons Grocery stores have donation bins that makes donating so easy. Thats where the items I cleaned out will be going.  When there is a week where items at the store become free items I will often pick them up and then just take them to a donation bin on my way home. If your spring cleaning involves rotating your shelves keep in mind that things you are not going to use (before their exp. date) or are just stocked to heavily in can be donated and you will be helping others!  I normally only think of donating to food banks at the holidays, but they are ALWAYS taking donations. I love it when a situation is a win-win!  Now I have tidier cupboards and get to do something nice. With my coupon use I have been able to keep my cupboards FULL of food which I am so thankful for, and love that I can help others a little bit too. spare time on a saturday, mixes with craft store coupons.

It has become a bit of a joke between Tori and I that everything we do is based around a deal or a coupon. Yes, there are times we pay full price but we do love a good deal whenever and where ever possible. This has crossed over to cover many different areas of my life besides grocery shopping. 

I am not totally sure what caused this need to craft ,well it actually may have just been the coupons Tori posted yesterday for Roberts and Tai Pan, but whatever caused it, my weekend plans are now going to involve some sort of creating probably using a glue gun (and due to the coupons some shopping as well :) ). 

By using coupons it has, trips to craft and fabric stores much less pricey, as well as date nights more affordable, and many many many other things that have been fun for my family. Using coupons this weekend my family will probably go out for a meal, and I will work on the craft.

Recipes Using Sale Items- Avocados

There was not really anything that caught my eye for serious stocking up on when I shop this week. This means that I will just be picking up the "this and that" we will need to create meals next week from the other things we have on hand. 

The one thing I did notice however was avocados are on SALE at smiths. What does this mean? Guacamole for cheap- and using it in a 7 layer bean dip! If you happen to be one of those people (like my husband) who thinks avocado is gross, this post is not for you, as I could not more strongly disagree! =) So, avocados on sale means making some guacamole for the freezer. Avocados do not freeze well whole, or cut into pieces. However if you mash them and add some lemon juice (so the acidity can keep the  mash does from turning a 

unappetizing grey color) they will freeze great. 

Directions to freeze for later use:

Using a fork mash the avocados well. Transfer them into a freezer bag and seal tightly, leaving just a little air space for frozen fruit to expand. It is best to use within 3-4 months.

When your ready for your mashed avocado, allow it to defrost overnight in the fridge. Then use it as usualy in dips or as a sandwich spread. 

For a really quick guacamole I will mix a few tablespoons of salsa in. With summer on the way I know we will be having at least one BBQ or party of some sort to attend and this makes for an easy appetizer -at a great price.
